QuDoS multiple sclerosis: NHS case studies 2019 – Judges’ Special Award

South East London Kent and Medway (SELKAM) Regional MS Nurse Advisory Group

SELKAM has been established for ~20 years and has ~20 members who meet regularly. The group provides access to clinical supervision, networking, sharing of best practice, and policy and procedure development. They bring together MS nurses and specialist MS therapists from across the region to keep abreast of new drug approvals, and work with pharmaceutical companies to provide training for new treatments. They developed one of the first MS management guidelines (in 2018), which now forms the basis of the NICE guidelines. The group also initiated an annual multi-disciplinary information day, so that individuals from different therapy areas could share best practice. They have worked with King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to develop regional disease-modifying therapy guidelines. SELKAM aims to develop its members’ specialist skills, identify learning needs, and provide education on new drugs, as they become available.
