QuDoS multiple sclerosis: NHS case studies 2019 – Innovation in Digital Services

This team consists of MS specialists, IT specialists, a project lead and a quality improvement lead, all working together to establish a digital medical record system to empower MS patients. A digital patient-held record was developed and launched through the ‘My Medical Record’ platform. This platform allows patients to access clinical letters, future appointments and blood results, plus offers communication with their treatment team. The platform was previously only available to patients within the oncology pathway; this team utilised the pre-existing platform to launch the MS-specific system. Team members speak directly to each patient about using the platform during their first visit and have now signed up ~50% of their 400-person case load. The platform acts as a ‘virtual clinic’, helping to ease case load burden where resources and clinic spaces are limited. The system also gives patients control so that they can own and manage their disease.
